Hatha yoga, also called Haṭhavidyā, is a branch of yoga. The word haṭha symbolizes a system of physical techniques supplementary to a broad conception of yoga. Our tradition believes that the deity Shiva himself discovered the Hatha yoga. In the 20th century, Hatha yoga, particularly asanas (the physical postures), became popular throughout the world as a form of physical exercise, and is now simply termed as "yoga".
Hatha Yoga: A Preparatory Process
Hatha yoga is a process which is to be done before yoga. The word "ha" means sun, "ta" means moon. Thus, Hatha yoga is about bringing balance between the sun and the moon in you, or the Pingala and Ida energy channel in you.
